BOTTA DESIGN - GERMANY

Award-winning designer Klaus Botta's titanium watches and single-hand timepieces

Minimalism is emphasized in these eyecatching wristwatches

Botta Design, based in Konigstein, Germany, has won several awards for their watch designs. These splendid, striking timepieces are extremely light and low-profile (slim), going against the prevailing trend of large, heavy, chunky watches. Few manufacturers are making high-quality slim watches and lightweight watches.

Unlike chronographs and sports watches, the elegance of the display and the elimination of complex functions, plus the luxury finish, combine to make these beautiful watches suitable for evening wear, or as a dress watch to be worn with a suit. Several of the models have small and medium sized faces, making them suitable as ladies watches also, particularly since they are not bulky the way most men's watches are.

Klaus Botta is very well regarded in both the watch industry and the design industry. Translating the Bauhaus design philosophy into horological terms, Botta is a champion of minimalism, even among the few German watch manufacturers that espouse the notion of keeping things simple. Perhaps that is why he has won more international design awards than any of the others.

Although his line of watches extends into a wide range of territories, including 24-hour watches, one-hand watches, etc., there are certain predictable aspects of his designs. Numeric indices (the numerals you find on a watch) are small and tastefully rendered. The crown is often smaller than usual, and he typically uses a movement from the Ronda Company of Switzerland. The lugs of the watch, to which the strap is attached, are usually tucked out of the way neatly. Klaus Botta also likes to use completely flat sapphire glass for the watch crystal. And his designs often feature titanium.

Botta Design has always been our most popular watch brand, and we encourage you to look through our collection of fine German-made watches from this innovative designer.
