It's a satisfaction that no quartz watch will ever be able to offer--winding the crown of a mechanical watch, and letting the mainspring drive the hands of the watch for 36 hours or more.
Rufus Lin Designs has assembled a small, very exclusive collection of fine handwound mechanical watches. We invite you to look over these luxury watches, all of which incorporate robust and precise handwinding movements.
RUFUS'S COMMENT
The earliest wristwatches, and the pocket watches before them, had to be wound by hand. This action basically tightens the coils of the mainspring in the watch movement, and the release of the spring's energy in a regulated manner drives gears that move the hands around the dial.
With the introduction of a pendulum-like rotor that swivels with the movement of the arm on which the watch is worn, the automatic watch was born. Yet when it comes to mechanical movements, there are many people who still make it a point to own and use at least one purely manual, handwound watch. This collection brings together some of the most beautiful examples of that genre.
