RUFUS LIN
Chief designer of Rufus Lin Designs
Canadian designer Rufus Lin divides his time between Vancouver and Tokyo, where he works with his design, marketing and logistics teams to introduce fine European luxury watches and other fine fashion items to North America and Japan. Rufus Lin's recent work includes the design of the exclusive Rufus Gerard Lacus Temporis luxury chronograph, his critically acclaimed novel "Trout Rising Again", classical and jazz music compositions and recordings, photography and video work, and a series of acrylic paintings exhibited in Tokyo. He is presently working on a series of fine sculptures in a Japanese style, intended for display in elegant working and living spaces such as homes and offices.
Each product line carried by his design firm, Rufus Lin Designs, is personally selected by Rufus Lin, in accordance with his design philosophy, which may be summarized as "a passion for beauty".
THE KEY CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
- - the products are designed and manufactured by independent designers, not luxury conglomerates
- - the products are of the highest quality, and are manufactured using best-of-class materials and processes
- - the products are made by hand, in very limited quantities, typically by family businesses
- - the products offer true luxury at reasonable prices
- - the products are not already widely known or available
- - above all, the products must be beautiful and desirable
Rufus Lin has a special interest in making the luxury, beauty and elegance hitherto enjoyed by people in their 40s, 50s and 60s, who have become financially well established, also available to people in their 20s and 30s, at prices that they can already afford. Related to this is Rufus Lin's continuous and active interaction with young designers, especially in Japan, supporting their growth and development, and working with them to bring their fashion goods to market.
In his interviews with various magazines, Rufus Lin has indicated clearly that all of his artistic and design activities, as well as those of his firm, are only possible thanks to the customers who purchase the watches and luxury items that he has personally selected for his firm to sell. As a designer, Rufus Lin is committed to understanding and satisfying the need for beauty in the lives of his customers.
